LGBTQ+ YOUTH WELL-BEING PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

The Diversity Center supports Gender Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) in middle and high schools through workshops, special events, and resource sharing. We organize social gatherings and activities for LGBTQ+ and allied youth (ages 11-18) and young adults (ages 18-24), including mental health fairs, Queer Prom, and CampOUT. In response to community needs, we launched a playgroup for gender-diverse children (ages 5-11) in collaboration with TransFamilies. All program participants are asked to complete our Community Connection Survey annually.

Key Programs

Rainbow Kids: A monthly 90 minute playgroup for gender diverse, LGBTQ+ kids and allies elementary school age 5-11 and their families. Co-facilitated with TransFamilies.

Prismatic Youth Gatherings: A monthly activity for LGBTQ+ and allied youth ages 11-18. This program is designed to help youth feel a sense of belonging and empowerment.

GenderVentures: A monthly support group for gender-diverse youth ages 11-18. This program encourages youth to explore and understand how gender informs the way we experience the world. One of the best ways to freely explore gender diversity safely, is to do so with community!

Hosts an annual Queer Prom and CampOUT for LGBTQ+ and allied youth ages 14-18.

Assists families in finding suitable child care options and preschools based on the specific needs of the family. We also work to increase the quality of care by offering training and technical assistance to child care providers in Santa Cruz County. Families are encouraged to make CDRC their first point of contact when looking for child care, preschool or other resources to support their child's development. Helps families determine whether they qualify for child care payment assistance. Provides referrals to agencies that offer subsidized child care. Offers child care providers a wealth of resources to help them obtain a license, maintain a successful business, increase the quality of their program or grow as professionals.

  • Public Health Field Nursing A voluntary home visiting program with a Public Health Nurse to support families during pregnancy and with children up to 5 years old. The program provides strength-based case management, assists families with accessing resources, and provides health and parenting education.
  • Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) An evidence-based home visiting program that pairs first time expectant parents with a specially trained nurse. The program begins during pregnancy and provides support, education, and resources to families until their child turns 2 years old. Nurses also check in with the parent regarding their health and wellness and their child's growth and development.
  • Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP)CPSP is a statewide program that provides enhanced reimbursement for a wide range of services to Medi-Cal eligible pregnant and postpartum women.
  • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) ProgramPublic Health Nurses in Santa Cruz County provide bereavement support, information, resources, and follow-up services to assist families and caregivers who have experienced the loss of an infant from SIDS or Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID).
