YOUTH LEADERSHIP

YW-Leaders is in essence YW-Teens at the high school and college level. Originally steaming from our YW-Teens participants, the YWCA of Watsonville accepts volunteers from high school to college students who are interested in developing their skills further. Participants are trained as co-facilitators and join staff during YW-Teen Programming or many of our other programs.

ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES (APS)

The County of Santa Cruz Human Services Department's Adult Protective Services (APS) provides intervention services to protect elderly or dependent adults from abuse, neglect, or exploitation. We support older and disabled adults who may be experiencing physical assault or abuse, domestic and/or family violence, sexual assault or abuse, bullying (verbal, cyber, or physical), stalking, harassment, neglect, identity theft or fraud, financial crime or scams.

County APS agencies investigate reports of abuse of elders and dependent adults who live in private homes, apartments, hotels, hospitals, or who are, or soon will be, experiencing homelessness. We support older and disabled adults regardless of status-if you are experiencing homelessness; are an immigrant; identify as LBGTQIA+; are a Veteran, have a physical or mental disability; or if you have limited English language proficiency.

The STAR program provides support to youth who are exiting Probation-based placements and returning to a family-based home environment. The program's vision is for youth to transition home successfully by engaging in school and/or work and avoid future justice system involvement. Encompass STAR staff partner with Santa Cruz County Juvenile Probation, Positive Discipline, and Conflict Resolution Center to create robust transition plans and increase parental capacity to care for and address the needs of children involved in the justice system. Encompass staff are bilingual and focus on the whole family. Linkages include mental health and drug/alcohol counseling, employment resources, academic support, and pro-social activities.

The multi-story home sits on a large wooded lot, in a quiet and serene setting. Freedom House is located far away from the hustle and bustle of Santa Cruz, with convenient public transportation access. At Freedom house, clients receive the benefits of community support from recovery peers as well as bilingual house management. Residents build community connections by attending weekly house meetings where rules and policies are frequently reviewed and assessed which helps to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all residents. OUTREACH-BASED CASE MANAGEMENT

The Outreach-Based Case Management Program helps those who are experiencing homelessness in Santa Cruz County, pursue permanent housing solutions, access to community health and financial resources, provide housing navigation and supportive services to help individuals and families lead more stable lives. The Outreach-Based Case Management team consists of an Program Manager, Case Managers, and Healthcare Navigators. Healthcare Navigators focus on

  • breaking down the traditional walls of health care, extending beyond hospitals and health care settings into communities,
  • introducing a better way to coordinate health care, and
  • providing high-need members with in-person care management where they live.
Case Managers focus on providing services that help address members' health-related social needs, help them live healthier lives, and avoid higher, costlier levels of care. These include
  • support to secure and maintain housing,
  • access to resources to support short term recovery, and
  • a variety of other community-based services.

AFFORDABLE HOME OWNERSHIP - AFFORDABLE HOUSING

We build homeownership housing in partnership with volunteers on the job site and future homeowners with the assistance of local donors and gifts of building materials and professional labor. All homes built by Habitat remain affordable forever. If a Habitat homeowner moves, we buy the home back at a principal price and resell to a new qualifying family. We have been building affordable homes since 1989 and will continue to serve Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties for the foreseeable future. We also have built ADU's to help seniors age in place and done rehab/repair projects for the families we serve.
